RECOGNISING that the different approaches taken by Adherents create a need for interoperability of secure and trusted digital identity systems across borders, which calls for international collaboration and the development and adoption of common technical standards to ensure that all users are always able to access essential services;

    Interoperability enabled by technical standards is also essential between digital identity building blocks/components at national level. This ensures a dynamic market and helps prevent dependency to vendors.

      Under eIDAS 1, there exist interoperability issues that are currently being revised and updated through the EUDIW and eIDAS 2 draft. The expectation will be a new framework that ensures interoperability and cross border functions for public and private sectors.
